Vizcaya Museum and Gardens with the Miami City Ballet Event

I got a call last minute to photograph an event at Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. As a member, I usually go to most events. The national historical site is an amazing place, but it is so much more at sun down.

I'm not the type of photographer who likes to talk to my subject(s). In fact, I'm more of a street photographer who enjoys seeing people in their humanity. However, they asked me to interact more with the guests and take their photos. Even more so, to take as many pictures of the younger crowd as I could.

It was a bit of an adjustment to be honest. I would see people engaged in conversations and just wanted to take their picture without them noticing. I also felt bad asking people to stop in mid conversation to look at the camera to take their picture.

On another note, I'm still dealing with the issue of using a flash. I sometimes forget to set the ISO at 50 or 100, and when I'm not using a Sony flash, the ISO goes up to 800-1200, and the flash washes out everything. I'm used to fast primes, and I had to switch to the Voigtlander 40mm F/1.4 to get better results under low lights and avoid using the flash.
